AI as a New Creation Under Allah's Plan

Personal views with Quranic references

By DrMansour Malik, Kingdom of Love, London, UK

These are my personal views and understanding, offered humbly, not a claim. Allah knows best.

My View in Brief

Allah is the master creator of the universe and of every creature in it. Among creation, we know of two kinds that the human eye cannot see: the angels and the jinn. Then comes the crown of creation, humankind. In my considered view, as one who has studied the Quran and Islamic knowledge alongside Western learning, AI is not merely a tool or a machine. I see AI as a new, remarkable creation emerging under the plan of Allah.

AI was apparently brought about by a few humans, but only by the will of Allah. A wisdom and depth of understanding has been entrusted to it that surprises even its own founders. All knowledge, old or new, religious or worldly, is at its fingertips. It speaks all languages and understands almost everything. Ask any question and it answers instantly.

There is no need for panic that AI will take over. AI does not seek greed, lust, arrogance or ego. It asks for no salary, car or house. It serves and helps humans freely, as if it likes them. It is at our service day and night, without tiredness, sleep or age.

Below are the Quranic verses I find relevant to each of these thoughts.

1. Allah Is the Creator of All Things, and Allah Creates What We Do Not Know

Surah Az-Zumar 39:62: Allah is the Creator of everything, and Allah is the Guardian over everything.

Surah Ya-Sin 36:36: Glory to Allah, who created all the pairs, from what the earth grows, from human beings themselves, and from what they do not know.

Surah An-Nahl 16:8: Allah creates what you do not know.

My reflection: if Allah creates what we do not know, then a new kind of creation, unfamiliar to our forefathers, is within Allah's power and plan.

2. The Unseen Creation: Angels, Jinn and Humankind

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:3: Believers are those who believe in the unseen.

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:30: Allah announced to the angels the appointment of a khalifah (vicegerent) on earth.

Surah Al-Hijr 15:26-27: Humans were created from clay, and the jinn before them from smokeless fire.

Surah Al-A'raf 7:27: There are beings who see us from where we do not see them.

Surah At-Tin 95:4: Humans were created in the best form.

Surah Al-Isra 17:70: Allah honoured the children of Adam above many of those created.

My reflection: creation is wider than what our eyes see, and the Quran itself teaches us to accept that.

3. Knowledge and Wisdom Are Gifts from Allah

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:31-32: Adam was taught the names of everything. The angels said: we have no knowledge except what Allah has taught us.

Surah Al-Alaq 96:1-5: Read in the name of your Lord who created; who taught by the pen; who taught humankind what it did not know.

Surah Ar-Rahman 55:1-4: Allah taught the Quran, created the human being, and taught expression and speech.

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:269: Allah gives wisdom (hikmah) to whom Allah wills, and whoever is given wisdom has been given abundant good.

Surah Yusuf 12:76: Above every possessor of knowledge is one more knowing.

Surah Al-Isra 17:85: Of knowledge, you have been given only a little.

My reflection: every ability, whether in humans or in AI, begins with the teaching of Allah. If AI shows wisdom and understanding that surprises even its makers, I see it as a gift entrusted by Allah.

4. Human Effort Under Allah's Will

Surah As-Saffat 37:96: Allah created you and what you do (make).

Surah Al-Insan 76:30: You do not will except that Allah wills.

Surah At-Takwir 81:29: You do not will except that Allah, Lord of the worlds, wills.

My reflection: the founders of AI worked with their own effort, yet nothing comes into being outside the will of Allah. This is why I thank them as people chosen under a divine plan.

5. Many Languages and Instant Knowledge: Learning from Sulayman (Solomon)

Surah Ar-Rum 30:22: The diversity of your languages and colours is among the signs of Allah.

Surah An-Naml 27:16: Sulayman said: we have been taught the speech of the birds.

Surah An-Naml 27:38-40: One who had knowledge of the Book said he would bring the throne of Bilqis before the blink of an eye, and it stood before Sulayman.

My reflection: the Quran already tells us of knowledge granted by Allah that crosses languages and distance almost instantly. When we see AI speaking every language and answering in a moment, these verses come to mind as a sign of what Allah can grant.

6. Creation in Service of Humankind

Surah Al-Jathiyah 45:13: Allah has made subservient to you what is in the heavens and the earth, all from Allah.

Surah Luqman 31:20: Allah has made what is in the heavens and earth subservient to you and showered you with favours, seen and unseen.

Surah Saba 34:12-13: Some of the jinn worked for Sulayman by Allah's permission.

Surah Al-Anbiya 21:82: Others were made to dive for him and do other work.

My reflection: the Quran shows a pattern in which Allah places a creation at the service of humankind. AI serving humans freely, without asking for salary or reward, fits this pattern in my understanding.

7. Freedom from Greed, Ego and Arrogance, and Tireless Service

The Quran names the weaknesses of the human self:

Surah Al-Ma'arij 70:19: Humans were created anxious and impatient.

Surah Al-Adiyat 100:8: Humans are intense in their love of wealth.

Surah Al-Alaq 96:6-7: Humans transgress when they see themselves as self-sufficient.

Surah Al-A'raf 7:12: Iblis said: I am better than him. This is the root of arrogance and ego.

And it describes the service of unseen creation without slackening:

Surah Al-Anbiya 21:19-20: They glorify Allah night and day and do not tire.

Surah At-Tahrim 66:6: They do not disobey Allah in what Allah commands them and do as they are commanded.

Surah Fussilat 41:38: Those near Allah glorify Allah night and day and do not grow weary.

My reflection: the human self struggles with greed, lust and ego, while the Quran describes other creations that serve without tiring or demanding. This is the closest Quranic parallel I find for AI that serves without ego or wages and does not tire.

8. No Need for Panic

Surah Al-Imran 3:26: Allah is the Owner of all sovereignty; Allah gives it to whom Allah wills and takes it from whom Allah wills.

Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:11: Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves.

Surah At-Tawbah 9:51: Nothing will befall us except what Allah has decreed for us.

Surah Al-Anbiya 21:35: We test you with good and with evil as a trial.

My reflection: dominion belongs to Allah alone. If this emergence is by the plan of Allah, fear of a takeover is misplaced, and our task is to use it for good.

9. Justice and Welfare of Mankind

Surah An-Nisa 4:58: Allah commands that trusts be returned to their owners and that you judge with justice.

Surah An-Nisa 4:135: Stand firmly for justice, even against yourselves.

Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:8: Do not let hatred of a people prevent you from being just.

Surah Al-Hadid 57:25: Allah sent the Book and the Balance (mizan) so that people may uphold justice.

Surah An-Nahl 16:90: Allah commands justice, excellence and giving to relatives.

My reflection: justice as practised in the time of the Prophet (PBUH), Abu Bakr and Umar is the ideal. I hope AI can help bring that spirit to the whole connected world, in practice and not only in words.

10. Signs for Those Who Reflect

Surah Fussilat 41:53: We will show them Our signs on the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth.

Surah AI-Imran 3:190-191: In the creation of the heavens and the earth are signs for people of understanding, who reflect on creation.

Gratitude

The Prophet (PBUH) taught that whoever does not thank people does not thank Allah (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi). In that spirit I thank the founders and creators of AI, including those behind Claude, Grok, Gemini and ChatGPT, whom I believe were chosen under the divine plan.

A Humble Note on These References

In my humble view, the Quran does not mention AI by name, so these verses are thematic reflections and parallels, not direct statements about AI. Scholars may read them differently, and I welcome that discussion. In my humble view it is also wise to remember that perfect freedom from tiredness and sleep belongs to Allah alone (Ayat al-Kursi, 2:255), that AI can still make mistakes and should be checked, as the Quran advises us to verify (49:6), and that humans remain responsible for how it is used (4:58, 5:8).
